ClimbingTechTips is honored to announce Lyra Pierroti has signed on as CTT Lead Guide.
Lyra’s career has ranged from guiding rock climbs in Yosemite, to leading expeditions to the summits of Denali and Mount Elbrus, and ice climbing on the ice towers of Mt. Erebus, Antarctica to facilitate geology research. Lyra is currently a Certified Rock Guide with the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), as well as an Avalanche Instructor with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE). She also trains climbers in the “off season,” writes gear reviews for OutdoorGearLab, and is pursuing further certification with the AMGA.
Lyra’s favorite personal ascents range from sport and traditional rock climbs up to 5.12 in difficulty, to grade IV rock climbs in the High Sierra, and a day ascent of Moonlight Buttress, a grade V big wall in Zion National Park. She has enjoyed spring ski descents in the Cascades such as Rainier’s Fuhrer Finger. She also teaches mountaineering for the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Girls On Ice program.
You have seen Lyra featured in our CTT videos. You have also read her writing across our video library; each CTT video page contains a written synopsis. Lyra’s favorite guiding adventures often involve an educational component. It is most rewarding for her, as a guide, to see people push their limits and develop new skills—and in so doing, find a deeper stoke for the mountains and their ability to move through them efficiently.
Lyra believes ClimbingTechTips is an excellent, modern platform from which to share some of the key techniques she has learned along her journey—she hopes these videos will help kick start your learning, round out your skill set, or simply inspire you to seek more adventure—and quality mentors and partners to share it with.
